    On Nelson Mandela International Day

The World Federation of Democratic Youth would like to extend its greeting message to global youth on the occasion of 93rd birth Day of Nelson Mandela- to uphold his sprit to fight against the social and political injustices, hatred and subordination.

The icon of anti-apartheid struggle aspired globally not only being a revolutionary fighter from his young age to fight for justice, equality and human liberty- but also due to proving himself as a symbol of peace and harmony to bring his nation into reconciliation with ‘forget and forgiveness’ despite all his suffering from apartheid regime backed by imperialist forces that caged him into prison for 27 years of life.

His untiring struggle against apartheid, way of handling peace and reconciliation- and his vision of humanism, global equity and justice are not only the assets of South African people- but also the sources of inspiration to the people of third world and the globe. We think the decision of UN General Assembly in 2009 to celebrate ‘Nelson Mandela International Day’ is appreciative step that recognizes a 67 years of heroic fight of an African leader. It is also inspirational to uphold the path of justice and freedom for new generations.

WFDY had been actively supporting the cause of anti-apartheid struggle and had organized ranges of programs demanding to release Nelson Mandela during 70ties and 80ties. Many world youth festivals had committed to extend the solidarity and support programs for anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa. We feel really proud that the clarion call of WFDY to global youth to protest apartheid regime and its series campaigns had helped a lot to internationalize the issue at the greater extend.

After two decades of freedom from apartheid, WFDY had the opportunity to convene its 17th World Festival of Youth and Students in South Africa in 2010 dedicating it to the name of Nelson Mandela and Fidel Castro. It was really a cheerful movement for global youth that they had the chance to visit the country of Mandela for the cause that they had been supporting and extending solidarity for decades and to echo solidarity voice for others from platform of 17th WFYS.

We wish for his good health on this occasion that we could still feel him in person to inspire the anti -imperialist, progressive and democratic young people in the world- to fight for freedom, peace, harmony, equity and justice in the world.

    On Nelson Mandela 92nd Anniversary

On behalf of member and friendly organizations from around the globe, the World Federation of Democratic Youth joins the Mandela family, South Africa, Africa and the World in celebrating the 92nd birthday of Cde Nelson Mandela on Sunday 18 July 2010.We also do believe that Cde Mandela has played a critical role in unifying the people for peace, democracy, freedom and further deepening the spirit of patriotism. The spirit shown by such icons have greatly taught the youth of the world that a revolution is neither invitation to dinner, nor a stroll in the park, in fact such leaders passed through very difficult and nefarious times.

The 92nd birthday for the great icon of the world comes barely five months before the world once again gathers in South Africa for the 17th World Festival of Youth and Students in December. The Festival will once again give a score to South Africa to dismiss the racist fears of the apartheid era and it will definitely leave a legacy that if ever united we can defeat imperialism.

The World Federation of Democratic Youth therefore encourages the youth and students of the world to join the appeal of the Nelson Mandela foundation which is asking people to give 67 minutes of their time to volunteer - one minute for every year that he spent in the struggle for equality and fighting the apartheid regime.

We therefore wish Cde Nelson Mandela a happy birthday and many more years.

On the 20th anniversary of the release of Nelson Mandela from prison

The World Federation of Democratic Youth joins the Mandela family, South African people and all progressive youth movements in remembering the 20th Anniversary after the release of Cde Nelson Mandela from the notorious Robben Island Prison of the apartheid regime. We once again re-affirm our support for the great revolutionary leader who has stood firm and focused to defend the imperialist machinations and unconditionally defended the revolution for a free South Africa.

Today, the same imperialist regimes continue to craft draconian laws to further oppress innocent people of the world under the so called banners of the rule of law, democracy and terrorist activities amongst other endless list of imperial propaganda language.

WFDY still stand side by side with revolutionaries who resisted and who still resist all forms of oppression, leaders like Cde Mandela who made South Africa to illuminate with glory over the achievements they made in developing their countries.

On behalf of member and friendly organizations, the World Federation of Democratic Youth therefore salute Cde Nelson Mandela for the role he has played as a courageous father-figure, a role model par excellence and we applaud him for the historical role he has played in uniting the progressive masses of not South Africa but the world at large. His highest level of his sacrifice goes a long way in teaching us, the youth of today, to actively participate in resisting all forms of oppression for a better and peaceful world.
