The 12 of February 2012 in Greece was marked by the approval of the new memorandum bythe majority of the parliament despite the losses by the two big parties. The newagreement with the EU ensures the interests of the creditors and thecapitalists, attacks the labor law and rights, reduces the minimum salary and leads the workers, especially the youth to unemployment and a life of misery and poverty.

Despite the shameless threats of the coalition government, of the monopolies and their political expressers, the people of Greece demonstrated their refusal to accept the new austerity measures during the last weekend with massive strikes and rallies. The youth together with the workers showed that they cannot be blackmailed and threatened any more by the government, the troika and the EU. In massive numbers the Greek popular strata shouted that they refuse to be sacrificed for the profits of the capitalists, Greeks and foreigners.

The last few months, we have witnessed escalation in the pace of events in Syria, where the country is facing serious challenges in keeping civil and social peace in the midst of increasing violence, and imperialistic threats.

The imperialist powers, with their allies in the region are working hard to create the conditions and to exploit the developing situation to interfere in Syria and impose their plans of governance and control over the Syrian people. The last trials in the UN Security Council was one more proof about the intentions and plans of the imperialist countries to conduct political and military interference in Syria.

The World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) joins the youth of Venezuela on the festive day of 12 of February. It is the day that marks the 198 anniversary of the memorable Battle of Victory where a handful of brave young Venezuelan were able to defeat Spanish colonial troops, giving a convincing demonstration of heroism and sacrifice of youth on the objective of national liberation.

From WFDY we send our greeting and fervent revolutionary message of commitment with each and every young man and woman in Venezuela who are mobilized and struggle across the country, the youth that develops activities and action to continue the defeats of imperialism and advance the consolidation of the Bolivarian process.

This year’s anniversary is of great importance and significance, since in 2012 young people will undertake a new and decisive battle against imperialism and its local allies: the coming presidential elections scheduled for October 7. The triumph of popular forces expressed in the candidacy of Hugo Chavez, is one of the most important goals for all young Venezuelan revolutionary today. As they did 198 years ago, they must contain the new offensive of imperialism.
