International Solidarity Campaign to the Korean Youth and People
The 25 of June is marked by the beginning of the US imperialist attack and war in Korea, 62 years ago, in
1950. It was one of the first and most vicious attacks of the American Imperialism after the Second World War. It was a part of their plans to put a stop to the liberation movement that was emerging all around the world and it could threaten their interests and control around the world. Since then they didn’t hesitate to directly attack a country, to overthrow democratic governments to establish dictatorships as long as they could continue the exploitation of the peoples. But they were not always successful because they were falling to predict the possibilities of the peoples resistance. This was the example of Korea.
The Korean people heroically resisted the US attack. Organized and determined the Korean people were fighting for their independence for their freedom against another imperialist that was aiming to deprive them from their rights. Despite the difficulties, with courage and self sacrifice the Korean people were able to stem the attack and safeguard their freedom and their future.
Since then the Korean people have manage to build their own state, they managed to overcome the continuous threats and Imperialist provocations. Despite their defeat, the USA, managed to split the country into two and since then they are continuously undermine the peace in the Korean Peninsula. With military presence and provocations they are trying to reverse their failure to control the Korean people.
The World Federation of Democratic Youth historically expressed its solidarity to the Korean people and the DPRK supporting the right of the Korean people for independence freedom and choosing their own path to progress. WFDY supported the anti-imperialist struggle of the Korean people for many decades and today on this anniversary we take the opportunity to re-affirm our stance.
Taking this opportunity we announce the beginning of the solidarity campaign to the people of Korea as it was decided during the last General Council of WFDY in May of 2012, in Zimbabwe:
The solidarity campaign will take place during the rest of 2012 with its highest point to be June and July of 2012 (25 June - 27 of July). The campaign has the aim to condemn the confrontation maneuvers of U.S. imperialists and South Korean puppet authorities against DPRK which are getting intense and more provocative during the last months. At the same time the campaign has the aim to support the peace loving forces of Youth in the Korean peninsula to strengthen their struggle of the re-unification of Korea and its people and to bring everlasting peace to the people of the country and the region away from imperialist attacks, interventions and exploitation.
WFDY strongly calls all its member organizations, all the anti-imperialist forces, the youth that believe and fight for a peaceful world, to support the “International Solidarity Campaign to the Korean Youth and People.” We call all of you to support the efforts to bring peace in the region and stop the imperialist interventions that for more than six decades are threatening peace and the well being of the people of Korea.
