WFDY statement against the Coup D’état in Paraguay - La FMJD contra el Golpe de Estado en Paraguay Jóvenes del
On June 22, the Elected Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo suffered a Coup D’état after a destabilization
process of right-wing parties of that country, to stop, in this way, the progressive policies developed during the recent years.
After an incident where 17 farmers were killed, during a struggle to recover their lands in the Department of Canindeyú, the national landowning oligarchy, under the imperial service, used this event as a pretext to realize a political process to oust President Lugo, whose government, indeed, is backed by the farmers.International opinion already considers this act as a Parliament Coup D’état.
This coup is added to a long list of attempts to destabilize the people’s self-determination in Latin America, where local oligarchies have acted in alliance, tolerance or complicity with the United Stated government, as well as what occurred in Venezuela, Bolivia, Honduras and Ecuador, all of those coups condemned by WFDY.
