Solidarity statement from WFDY to Egypt:
During the past year Egypt had witnessed political changes, the take of Mubarak by millions of peoplethrough demonstrations, Mubarak left the power to the army, who were forced to undergo deep political changes for peoples’ favor. However the army is taking the path of Mubarak, in limiting the effect of the 25th January uprising, people are being suppressed through violence, killed and beaten by the army forces.
During the past few days 6 of our comrades from the Union of Progressive Youth were cited, by the army forces, and comrade Mahmoud El Maghawry, the assistant of the general Secretary in Eastern province in the Union, was detained when he was on his way to Cairo, heading a delegation from the union, to show solidarity to the protestors in Al Abasiyeh field, who were demanding the end of the army rule.
WFDY renews its solidarity and support to peoples’ liberating movements, and to the democratic and secular forces in Egypt which are trying to promote the country into a democratic one. These actions shall not prevent the Egyptian people from continuing with their January uprising.
WFDY supports the immediate release of comrade Mahmoud El Maghawry, and the objectives of the Egyptian people to remove military from the power and establish instead a civil democratic regime which achieves social justice for Egyptian people.
