Solidarity with the Greek youth and workers

WFDY expresses its solidarity and salutes the massive demonstrations organized by the Greek workers, people and youth, the class oriented trade unions and PAME (All Workers Militant Front) against the reactionary measures planned in common by the Greek government, EU and IMF. We condemn the organized murderous attack against the forces of the All-Workers’ Militant Front (PAME), that led to several serious injuries and to the death of a construction worker, trade unionist of PAME.

On the 19th and 20th of October the Greek government of PASOK brought to the Parliament another law aimed at demolishing ample sectors of social rights of the Greek people. Namely, among others, the abolishment of sectoral collective contracts, cutdowns in salaries and pensions, increase of the taxes and “extraordinary contribution” of the people in the name of the crisis.

Responding to this violent dilemma, the working class movement took to the streets organizing a 2-day strike on the 19th and 20th October. The unprecedented participation of hundreds of thousands workers, small bussinessmen and youth in the demonstrations shows the contempt that the Greek people has against the austerity measures imposed by the Greek government and its domestic and international accomplices, EU and IMF and the parties - supporters of them, shows the committment to reinforce their struggle against these barbaric policies.

Under this situation, mechanisms of the bourgeois system, hooded provocateur mechanisms, with the toleration of police, organized and implemented a planned murderous attack against the most vibrant and numerous part of the demonstration, against the blocks of PAME. The result of this attack of the anarcho - fascist groups was the death of the PAME trade unionist and construction worker, Dimitris Kotzaridis, 53, and the woundings of dozens of PAME demonstrators.

Despite the attempts to terrorize the demonstrators and disperse the thousands of participants, with the intervention of the class-oriented trade-unions, of PAME, of the members of KNE - Communist Youth of Greece and of the Communist Party of Greece, this attempt was thwarted.

We explicitly condemn the murderous attack on the demonstrators and especially on the forces of PAME, KNE and KKE, as well as the dangerous forces that orchestrated it. We express our condolences to the family of the deceased Dimitris Kotzaridis. We have faith that the struggle of the Greek people and youth will fortify, showing that the collective and organized class struggle is the only way for the people and the youth to claim their rights and overthrow these barbaric capitalist policies.

Solidarity with the stuggle of the youth in the USA!

The World Federation of Democratic Youth stands in strong solidarity with all those who struggle every day in the United States namely the growing Occupy Wall Street and the Occupy Movement.

We are thrilled to see that thousands of young people have taken to the streets in hundreds of U.S. cities. We send our sincere comradeship and support as you face police repression and the dropping nighttime temperatures of the fall season.

United States capitalism and its supporters are a substantial part of the origin of current international crisis of the capitalist system. As U.S. corporations force the world’s economies into privatization, WFDY members around the world are experiencing a deterioration of socialized medicine, education, housing, and other human rights. The U.S.-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and other U.S. military occupations around the world, also threaten young peoples’ futures. We understand that one of the principal reasons why these wars have occurred is so that the companies which produce warfare materials can reap profit.

The global capitalist crisis was sparked in the U.S. and has been met by militant responses by the youth of Europe, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. U.S. youth and their allies are now taking their rightful place in demanding that the crisis not be solved on the backs of working class and youth.

WFDY is truly inspired by all those who have come together inside the United States to say, “Enough is Enough!” Your willingness to take this stand is a powerful message of solidarity with youth movements that also struggle against imperialism throughout the world. We want to match your courage with support from WFDY and its allies.

The World Federation of Democratic Youth encourages its members and allies to send messages of solidarity and support to the Occupy Movement and to our comrades in the USA. The coming Assembly of WFDY will surely enhance the forms of solidarity and cooperation to support the struggles that, in all countries throughout the world, the youth and workers are taking forward for social justice and against this inhuman and irrational system called capitalism, now in its upper phase: imperialism.

I am in one piece and ready to struggle until the day I die

Touching video of the meeting of René González with his daughters Ivette and Irmita following his exit from the prison of Marianna in Florida, on October 7, where he counted also with the presence of his father and brother.

“I am in one piece and ready to struggle until the day I die”, he said on the phone just minutes after he got of the unfair imprisoning.

Arrested in 1998 and sentenced to 15 years of jail for conspiracy, René returned to freedom last October 7 after the time of his sentence was finished - however a judge of Florida denied him the authorization to return to his family in Cuba.

He was now sentenced to stay three years under “supervised freedom” in the USA, which is an insult to Cuba that will only deteriorate more the relations between the two countries.

This decision adds more pain to this man’s family, as it means they will be three more years apart. During the 13 years of imprisoning in the USA, René’s wife - Olga Salanueva - was denied by the US Administration all requests to return to the USA, and now she will have to wait three years more until he returns to Cuba.

Furthermore, the staying of René in the USA puts in danger is own life, in case the US authorities insist in this “supervised freedom” in the country, given the aggressiveness of the anti-Cuban organizations located in Miami. How will the physical integrity of René Gonzalez be preserved in an environment that generates insecurity?
