On Africa Day 2010
On behalf of member and friendly organizations, the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) joins the youth of Africa in commemorating Africa Day on 25 May 2010. WFDY reaffirms its support in ensuring that there must be hardly any imperialist interventions in the governance of the African continent and it is up to the African people to determine their way of governance and they are the only ones who are obliged to choose their leaders. We salute the courage and bravery of the fallen and living heroes who sacrificed their lives to ensure the political liberation of a number of African countries. On the same note, we believe that total independence of the African continent will only be achieved when all indigenous people of the continent are in full control of their natural resources. Hence it is mind boggling, to witness that some erstwhile colonizers continue to create some carnival puppets in Africa and mask them as opposition parties in their quest to manipulate the government systems thereby destabilizing the gains of independence on the continent.
It is a great shame that 50 years after the decolonization process within the African continent, a fully fledged member of the African Union (Western Sahara), finds itself under the yoke of colonialism. We therefore call upon the African Union to play a leading role to ensure the immediate decolonization of this last colony in Africa. WFDY will therefore play an active role in ensuring that we continually expose the continued human rights abuses and torture of the innocent people of Western Sahara by the imperialist controlled regime of Morocco in both the occupied and freed territories.
We feel concerned about some African leaders who give residence to the occupying forces under the banner, AFRICOM, or USAFRICOM. These moves have nothing to do with the security of the people on the continent but it is a modern way of the re-occupation of the continent by the brutal imperialist regimes which still have blood on their hands as they recently massacred African people with hardly any justification, but to fulfill their quest to loot the abundant resources in the continent. At the level of youth representatives we call upon the African Union and regional blocks to reject such moves by the European Union and the United States of America as this can further bring nothing to the already suffering citizens of the continent. Instead of intervening in facilitating for decent education, health and accommodation for the people we still witness these double standards by these imperialist regimes to bring heavily armed soldiers to Africa in order to satisfy their so called interests.
WFDY salutes the African Union and SADC in fully supporting liberation movements which are under serious attack from the unrepentant imperialists. These organs stood firmly in denouncing the diabolical sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by Britain and its allies. We fully appreciate this brotherly solidarity as this can give us the power on the unity which exists within neighborly countries especially in Southern Africa. We will always stand side by side with revolutionary and progressive movements across Africa which are under threat from being wiped out of the political space and together we will defeat imperialism.
Furthermore, on 25 May we call upon the people and youth of Africa to keep their struggles in our strong fights against neo-colonization, imperialist military bases, unjust sanctions, racism and all forms of imperialist interventions with renewed energy in this special year when the World Festival of the Youth and Students is taking place in December in South Africa as the most important moment of our struggles coming together for a world free of imperialism.
