On the Nobel Peace Prize 2009

Last week, the President and Commander in Chief of the United States of America Army who is presiding over two ever - violent and destructive wars, Mr Barack Obama, was awarded the so-called Nobel Peace Prize.

Despite the fact that this cannot be considered exactly a surprise, given that most of the previous laureates have been deeply committed with the imperialist goals of domination of mankind, this is, however, an issue that deserves the attention and awareness of all anti-imperialist forces, particulary youth organizations.

The huge media highlight given to this award is, indeed, a continuation of the campaign started even before the American elections to present Obama, this administration, and the USA itself, has a new hope for a change in the world. Its aim is to hide from the people and youth of the world, the growing contradictions of imperialism and the real increase of its agressiveness.

The truth is that the so called “new aproach” of Barack Obama, when related to the policies of George W Bush, has brought no significant changes to the USA policies or the correlation of forces in the world.

Despite all promises and cosmetic operations the facts are the following:
    a) USA troops are still in Iraq, Afghanistan and more than one hundred countries where USA keeps its military bases and thousands of troops ready to intervene at any moment.
    b) USA, has reactivated the 4th Fleet that threatens in all Latin American countries, jeopardizing the ongoing processes of liberation and the sovereign of all those countries and peoples.
    c) The instalation of seven new military bases in Colombia by the USA is an even stronger demonstration of the support given to the oppresive and militaristic government of Alvaro Uribe.
    d) The support to the continuation of the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the daily humiliation of the Palestinian people, despite all rethoric about promoting a peace process, when indeed this is a peace concept based on safeguarding Israeli interests
    e) The fact that there is no tangible change what so ever regarding the unfair and internationally condemned blockade to Cuba, as well, as the refusal to accept the right of freedom and return of the Cuban Five Heroes to its motherland or even the possibilty to have a new approach to the process.
    f) The “forget the past” philosophy that denies the judgement of all those who were involved in war crimes related to the well known tortures and other kinds of violations of basic human rights that took (and probably still take) place in the American prisons.
    g) The continued and extension of the so-called targeted sanctions against the people of Zimbabwe by the government of Obama under the draconian and dubious Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act. Thus further creating very hostile economic conditions for people living peacefully in their sovereign country with their natural resources.
    h) Last, but not least, the constant threats to military intervene in Iran or other countries motivated only by these countries’ choices of development in a non US-dependent policy is a clear demonstration that Obama is no different from previous US Presidents: those who don’t follow the US orders will suffer the consequences, if necessary with their lives.

As a dark coincidence of this same week, it is rather relevant, that in the framework of the UN Security Council, USA under the leadership of the now awarded Nobel Peace Prize Obama, has approved the extension of the NATO presence in Afghanistan for one year more.

The only answer to this and other manouvers of imperialism is to spread the information, clarifying as much as possible and, of course, continuing the struggle against imperialism in all its expression, as this certainly is the only way for a true and lasting peace, based on justice, equality and sovereign.

    Against the EU Reform Treaty!

Today, millions of Irish people are summoned to, once again, vote if they accept or not the implementation of the EU Reform Treaty in their country.

Since this Treaty has to be accepted by all European Union member states, this referendum as a value much wider than the borders of the Irish state, and millions of people in the different member states of the EU, depending on the result its implementation or destruction.

In fact, this has been a major factor of pressure upon the Irish people who are being confronted with all kind of arguments to be pushed to vote in favor of this referendum, being blackmailed in all sorts of ways and accused of being the cause of EU failure in case they vote, once again, against the EU Reform Treaty.

On this matter, WFDY highlights the every day more clear evidence of the anti-democratic process going on to impose to the peoples of the EU member states the EU Reform Treaty, which has been rejected before in France, Holland and, as it is known, in Ireland itself. This process is a new (but not surprising) demonstration of the anti-democratic character of the EU itself as well as it structures.

Whatever are the results of this referendum this will always be an illegitimate Treaty. First of all, many of the peoples in the EU were not given the possibility to choose by themselves whether to accept or not this Treaty. Then, wherever the people were given a choice they rejected the Treaty. And finally, now in Ireland the people are being pushed to vote once again, after they already clearly said NO to the Treaty.

Furthermore, WFDY highlights the fact that this referendum is being held with the nearly complete silence of the international imperialist dominated media. Unlike the last one, where the imperialist triumphalism made the referendum in Ireland a big international event, now the international media, according to the orientation of the imperialist forces, is making an almost complete silent, so that the peoples of the remaining EU member states and all around the world are not aware of this totally anti-democratic manoeuvre.

Finally, WFDY reaffirms its commitment, struggle and solidarity towards a world of peace, social justice and sovereignty, on the complete opposite to what the EU Reform Treaty stands for with its measures in favour the international capitalist wealth concentration, privatization of all public services (formula that lead to the the ongoing international capitalist crisis) and alliance with the war criminal killing machine of NATO.

No manoeuvre can stop the people from being victorious against imperialism - the struggle goes on!

On the ocasion of the 60th anniversary of the Chinese Revolution

The World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) would like to express its greetings with the People of China on their auspicious occasion of celebrating its 60 Years of Revolution that liberated the country from imperialist occupation and war, and laid the foundation of People’s Republic of China.
Amid the many ups and downs in the process of building the country, the People’ s Republic of China has been emerged now as a major power by pursuing the peaceful path of non-alignment, cooperation and development.

China has achieved many successes in different front, especially to emerge as a world second largest and fast developing economy from very back-ward economy. In a very short period of time, it has lifted up significant proportion of its population from poverty. Its further trend of achieving rapid and steady economic growth is itself encouraging and positive sign even in this time of world economic crisis. We do believe that China will succeed to achieve the socialist goals of Chinese society in its own way.
Further, China has established its good relationship with its neighboring country based upon five principles of mutual cooperation and non-interference. In the process, it has succeeded to consolidate itself as a great nation by reclaiming its sovereignty in peaceful and diplomatic manner. China’s responsible ways to deal the world issues are really inspiring to world community who believe in mutual cooperation and understanding rather than imposing of the unilateral imperialist policies.

To come to this point of successes, the role of Communist Party of China and its leadership is invincible.

We do believe the peaceful rise of China in world arena and its development will be really conducive to maintain peace, progress and harmony in the world against imperialist offence and hegemonies.
On this great occasion we send our warm greetings to Chinese people and youth, and particularly to our friendly organization ‘All China Youth Federation’ and its leadership
