WFDY General Council Meeting took place successfuly!

The General Council of WFDY, its main organ between Assemblies, held its meeting in Havana, Cuba, on May 8 and 9. The meeting was highly participated by WFDY member organizations from all the regions of the world.

Al Shabeeba Bahrain, AISF India, CJC Spain, CL/YS UK, DYUS Syria, DNYF Nepal, EDON Cyprus, FEU Ecuador, FMLN Salvador, HCMCYU Vietnam, Istiqlal Morocco, JCP Portugal, JCV Venezuela, JJCC Chile, JLSY Japan, JMPLA Angola, JPL Brazil, JS Morocco, JUCO Colombia, KISSYL DPRK, KNE Greece, MJCF France, PNPYO Jamaica, RYU Syria, SDAJ Germany, SFPYO Sri Lanka, SKMRF Russia, SSU Sri Lanka, TKPY Turkey, UDY Jordan, ULDY Lebanon, UJC Brazil, UJC Cuba, UJC Uruguay, UJCE Spain, UJS Brazil, UJSARIO Western Sahara, UNEA Algeria, VYF Vietnam, YCL Canada, YCL USA, YS New Zealand and YS USA were the organizations that actively participated in fraternal and deep discussion on how to tackle the problems of the youth of the world and its main root: imperialism.

From the report of activities it was highlighted the very rich and broad activity of WFDY and the demanding calendar attended by the HQ, as well as the important steps regarding the communication and media of WFDY, namely by its renewed website the regular bulletin WFDY News.

The discussion on the 17th World Festival of Youth and Students was very deep in the need to keep the anti-imperialist character of the WFYS. The meeting reaffirmed the possibility of still being possible to have a massive, broad based, self-financed, anti-imperialist WFYS in the year of 2010.

From the ambitious plan of action discussed and approved during the GCM, there are three aspects that deserve particular highlight: 1) WFDY Summer Event “We will defeat imperialism!” (Voluntary work brigades and seminars), to take place in July and August, in Cuba, and to which all organizations should do their deepest efforts to mobilize; 2) WFDY campaign against imperialist military bases and occupation armies, to start this August, and which should be creatively implemented by all WFDY members as it will, at the same time, be developed by WFDY internationally; 3) WFDY missions to the hotspots of the World, such as Western Sahara, Palestine and Colombia, among others.

The meeting analyzed and took deep steps on reinforcing the structure of WFDY and its anti-imperialist character, as meeting point of the struggles of the youth of the whole world. Once again, all present organizations affirmed that, despite the difficulties and obstacles, just as 64 years before (when the peoples’ defeated the Nazism and Fascism) it is possible to reach victory and build a world of peace, solidarity and social justice!

In the frame of the meeting all delegates took also part in the 2nd International Solidarity Meeting for the Freedom of 5 Cuban Heroes and, alongside with 200 hundred international delegates more, solidarity was shown for the freedom of these 5 Cuban people that are unfairly kept in jail in USA and against the USA economical blockade on Cuba.

Solidarity towards Burmese youth and students!

The Word Federation of Democratic Youth is deeply concerned with the recent development in Burma to put into a trail an opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi with a charge of avoiding terms of Insein Prison. As Aung San Suu Kyi’s six-year term of house arrest is going to expire at the end of the month, the entry of a mysterious American man crossing the lake besides the prison has provided to the military ruler a benefit of doubt not to release her. The military ruler was afraid of her presence in public that they were hard pressed to hold the general election next year. With this charge they can extend her prison terms for three years more.

The military government has allowed very little reporting to media about the trail. The suppressed calm of Rangun can burst again and brutality of the military could over power to crush it.

We think that the home imprisonment of Aung san Suu Kyi is already illegal and the avoid of terms and conditions by getting entry of a stranger is his unilateral act. We do believe there is no need to be loyal towards military rule, their brutal suppression towards innocent people and cease of democratic rights and parliament, and imprisonment of its leader and followers.

WFDY reaffirms its commitment and solidarity with Burmese youth and students along with our member organization All Burma Student League. Further, we strongly demand to military Junta in Burma to restore multiparty democracy by ending their military rule, and for the immediate release of Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners.

We urge to all youth and student organizations around the globe to stand by the voice of Burmese students and strongly denounce the trail that recently orchestrated by Military Junta in Burma.

Young communists arrested by the Croatian police

On the last 1st of May, International Day of Worker, two young people members of the Socialist Youth of Croatia were arrested, for carrying a communist flag, with a hammer and sickle and the sentence “Workers of the entire world unite!”

The arrestment of these two youngsters was justified by the Croatian authorities for a so called “disruption of public order and peace.” After they were indentified by the authorities they were released and they will now face a procedure in the Croatian courts.

This happening is not disconnected from the events that, one year ago, took place also in Croatia, when the local police invaded an office to confiscate posters of WFDY that referred to an activity of WFDY against NATO and military bases in the Balkans area.

WFDY denounces this situation, as it considers it a new element in the long anti-communist and anti-democratic strategy of the European Union, NATO and its allies, such as Croatia. We also take the opportunity to denounce the attacks that, in several countries of the world, prevented or tried do disrupt demonstrations of the International Day of Worker.

These attacks are a sign of the contradiction between the imperialist order and a truly democratic world. As the crisis of imperialism deepens, more and more it is clear its anti-democratic, reactionary and militaristic character.

WFDY vehemently condemns all these attacks, and particularly what happened in Croatia, and it calls upon all its member and friend organizations to openly denounce this happening as well as others that interfere with the any democratic rights or freedoms.

WFDY will continue the struggle against imperialism and will never be stopped by any unfair restriction or interference to its ideas, methods and goals. We are right to struggle against imperialism and we are positive that we will win: We will defeat imperialism!
