On the victory of FMLN in El Salvador

The World Federation of Democratic Youth and the whole progressive youth of the world has received with much happiness the historical triumph of the Farabundo Martí Front for Freedom (FMLN) and its candidate comrade Mauricio Funes with 51,3% of the votes, in El Salvador, which represents a victory of all those who have struggled guided by its historical leader Schafik Handal, to build a better future for its people.

The historical struggle conducted by the forces that created the Front, which name is inspired in one of the organizers of the indigenous and farmers’ insurrection in 1932 (Augustín Farabundo Martí), who died murdered, represents a decision to struggle for the poor and the indigenous in a country with big inequalities, arriving to a second stage of struggle after the agreements of peace signed in Chapultepec, relevant moment for the FMLN to become a legal political party and continue its struggle to achieve the now conquered victory.

WFDY expresses its greetings, particularly to the youth and to all members of FMLN, reaffirming its total support to the new government and calls upon all its member and friend organizations as well as to all young progressive people of the world to celebrate this important victory, that represents a victory of those who struggle to build a better world, that is a fair praise of the comrade Schafic Handl, who will be always conducting the struggles of its people.

This summer, let’s all go to Cuba: WE WILL DEFEAT IMPERIALISM

This summer, young people from all over the world will be coming from their schools, places of work and neighbourhoods to Cuba to scream out loud: “We will defeat in imperialism!”

This strong sentence is the slogan for what will be the biggest youth international event of 2009, a moment of celebration and struggle, of joy and determination, of memory and perspective, to reinforce the bounds that unite all the young people of the world in their struggle against imperialism in all its expressions – against war and occuppation, for peace and democracy, against the privatization of education and health, for democratic access to culture and sports, for right to employment and labour rights, among other issues.

It is not by hazard that such determination arrives to the struggle of the young people of the world, speccially this year. In fact, 2009 is the year where two significant anniversaries come together: on the one hand it is the 60th year of life of the imperialist killing tool NATO; on the other hand it is the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, an example of struggle, resistance, solidarity, peace and progress.

In fact, it is precisely these two elements that WFDY wants to highlight by organizing solidarity brigrades and a set of seminars, which will allow all participants to see how, on the one hand imperialism is cruel (in the case of NATO), and on the other hand, that it is in fact possible to struggle, resist and win, succeeding to build a country, region and world of peace, friendship, sovereignty and progress for all.

During the brigades of volutary work – that have been done for many years in Cuba, and in which thousands of young people have participated - all participants will experience the Cuban reality during ten days, as a way to deeply understand the powerful achievements of the Cuban people, who, despite all the provocations and restrictions that imperialism creates, have bravely managed to conduct and reinforce over the last 50 years. Such experience will be lived by the participants while their offer a precious contribution to the Cuban people and youth – their strenght to help to rebuild all the buildings and structures that the hurracanes that passed through Cuba in 2008 have destroyed.

Besides this, all participants will participate in a set of international seminars speccially dedicated to discuss the 60 years of imperialist crimes of NATO, its global impact and the menace it represents to the future as the humanity, as well as its particular character in the framework of the different imperialist tools, such as AFRICOM (the special force of USA for quick military interventions in Africa) and the 4th Fleet (the sailing military base of USA that sails around the Latin America, so it can allow USA to easily and quickly invade any country). This moment will also be important to remember and bring out the truth about the NATO bombardment of Belgrade, ex-Yugoslavia, which was precisely ten years ago, and to discuss how NATO troops and its allies in the Balkans aerea led to the self proclaimed “independence” of the Serbian province Kosovo, in a process that made thousands of victims and that is still not recognised by the United Nations, despite the pressure of USA and European Union.

Moreover, the discussion will focus also on the achievements of the 50 years of the Cuban Revolution and its incredible achievements in main aereas like health, education, employment or democratic participation. Moreover, there will be some specific themes for other seminars regarding the main struggles of the young people of the world (education, employment, peace, democratic rights and freedom, etc.)

Finally, there be will time and room for all participants to get to know each other sharing their experiences about their struggles against imperialism, acknowledging their differences, but speccially their similiraties and the need for international solidarity as precious tool for the victory of each people against imperialism – all with a background of culture performances.

All will happen between the July 17 and 31 for the youngsters coming from North and Latin America and Africa, and between July 27 and August 13 for youngsters coming from Asia and Pacific, Middle East and Europe. The seminars will take place from July 28 to July 30. We count on you – to DEFEAT IMPERIALISM!

WFDY Statement on the situation of Sudan

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant against the Sudanese President for conviction in mass murder in Darfur region. As other international organizations manipulated by the imperialist powers, WFDY considers the ICC decision a political decision and another form of intervention in the internal issues of independent countries to cause more instability and to divide them in order to conquer them.

WFDY asserts its condemnation of those provocative decisions that will only lead to more wars and instabilities in the region.

WFDY also stresses the fact that it supports the democratic rights of the Sudanese people, the rights of the inhabitants in Darfur in a stable and better life and the rights of the residents of Southern Sudan in stability and progress. WFDY also supports the democratic forces struggling for the rights of the Sudanese people in democracy and social transformation.

However, all forms of international intervention in internal issues of sovereign countries like Sudan will only lead to more problems and tensions. Those policies form the legal cover for the domination and hegemony of USA and its imperialist allies over the world resources and sources of energy. The problems in Darfur and Sudan only rose after the discovery of oil, gas and uranium in its lands; therefore we understand those interventions as preliminaries for more exploitation of the resources of this country by the imperialist powers lead by USA.

WFDY expresses its solidarity with the Sudanese people against imperialist plans in their country, and with their right in independent progressive state that controls its resources for the well being of its people.
